In railway systems that use electrical traction powered from overhead wires it is critical that the height and lateral alignment of the overhead wires with respect to the track is maintained. MRX can provide automated inspection solutions for overhead power distribution systems.
Instrumented Pantograph
An instrumented pantograph on a service train, or more typically on a specialised survey vehicle, can be used to measure the relationship between the overhead wire and the vehicle body. Combined with synchronised tack geometry these measurements can be used to monitor the height(loaded) and stagger of the overhead wire with respect to the track.

A contact measuring system can also be used for other condition measurements including:
- Pan uplift force
- Pan head accelerations
- Horn Contact
- Overhead line voltage
Non Contact Overhead Measurement
The MRX Overhead Wire Monitoring System (OWMS) provides optical, non-contact measurements of height and stagger for multiple overhead wires. These measurements are taken with the overhead wire in the unloaded state.

OWMS Stagger Measurements
The OWMS allows safe monitoring of the primary overhead at speed without risk to personnel or the infrastructure.
