The inspection and maintenance of the brake systems is critical to the safety and efficiency of all rail operations.

The rail vehicle brakes (blocks or pads) are normally visually inspected with no measurements retained to allow future analysis. As a result, the inspection frequency is high and brake blocks and pads are discarded with significant useful material left.

The MRX Technologies Brake Block and Brake Pad Wear Monitoring systems are roll-by systems engineered to accurately measure every brake pad or block on a train. Wear trends can then be established and used to predict the remaining brake material life and change out dates.

These systems have enabled clients to extend the period between exams and give a significant increase in pad/block life.

At the same time, information about unusual wear trends has been used to identify and correct brake system defects.

Automated inspection provides objective detection and recording of the brake condition, allowing operators to more efficiently plan their maintenance.
